여기 소울 음악의 열렬한 팬이라면, 두 눈이 휘둥그레질만한 앨범 소식이 있다. 아주 희귀한 소울 트랙을 모은 4CD 박스 셋 [Groove & Grind: Rare Soul]이 그것이다.

 

락비트 레코드(RockBeat Records)를 통해 발매되는 이번 박스 셋에는 1963년과 1973년 사이에 녹음된 무려 100곡이 넘는 레어 소울이 수록되었으며, 이 방면에 해박한 저널리스트 빌 달(Bill Dahl)이 쓴 127페이지의 하드 커버 라이너 노트가 동봉되었다.

 

각 CD별로 'Urban Soul', 'Group Soul', 'Southern Soul', 'Funky Soul'처럼 카테고리화되어 있는 점도 눈에 띈다.

 

특히, CD로 제작하지만, 당대의 오리지널 사운드를 고스란히 담아내는 데 주력했으며, 몇몇 곡은 마스터 테입 자체가 없어서 손상된 바이닐의 잡음이 그대로 삽입되기도 했다고. 그야말로 수집가들에게는 더욱 끌리는 대목이다.
